Football captain enjoys Christmas treat from Eze Group

An inspirational football captain who lost several stone while playing in an “overweight” league, enjoyed VIP treatment match-day hospitality at St Andrew’s on Saturday thanks to a brand new Eze Group initiative launched to reward captains and leaders.

Bluenose Andrew Gallon, from Solihull, was nominated by fellow Birmingham City fan, Lee Malin, to enjoy a pre-match meal in the Captain’s Club, and sit in the luxury seats in the Eze Group Stand at Blues’ recent home game against Brighton.

Andrew is the captain of Phoenix XXXL, a football team in the Man versus Fat League where you must have a BMI of over 30 to take part. Eighty overweight men started playing in the league when it launched in January – an initiative designed for men who want to lose weight and have fun at the same time.

The captain and his brother, Ben, managed to lose an incredible 11 stone between them.

Lee said: “The pair of them have lost a staggering amount of weight since playing in the Man versus Fat League.

“Andy makes an excellent captain and really deserves to be recognised for his efforts. He messages his team daily and motivates them to stay on track and not slip up. He even makes them a healthy meal to take home after their weekly match on a Monday.”

Eze Group’s recently launched Captain’s Club initiative is designed to recognise and reward those great captains who are leading from the front and inspiring their colleagues and friends.

Ben, Paul Gallon and Josh Dodds all joined Andrew in the Captain’s Club and enjoyed the hospitality.

Andrew said: We’ve all had a great day, and can’t thank Eze Group enough. With the appointment of the new manager we were very excited to see how the team would get on. The meal beforehand was amazing and the view we had was fantastic. It was just a shame about the result!”

Eze Group CEO Dominic O’Reilly added: “We’re delighted Andrew and his guests enjoyed their experience. Captains in any walk of life are important, but especially on the sports-field. It’s a remarkable achievement for Andrew and his brother to lose that amount of weight – we hope they keep up the great work.”

The final score at St Andrews finished Blues 1 – Brighton 2.

Over the coming months Eze Group will ask fans to nominate school form captains, captains in the community and up and coming captains of industry.
